The archive solution from Vision solutions that has helped Hagemeyer in the last 12 months gain control over data growth.” 15th November 2005 Stuart Bates Project Manager
Project History • Standard Movex Archiving functionality exists but does not allow view or restore of the archived data • Extensive testing of standard archiving programmes revealed lengthy run times unlikely to be accommodated by the overnight batch window. • Concluded by Project Manager that Standard programmes not fit for business in December 2003.
Business Case • Originally projected that by 10th September 2004, DASD would reach 85% utilisation resulting in service degradation. • Not possible to continue adding DASD due to negative impact upon AS400 Processor. • System response deteriorating in many inquiry programmes due to volume of data. • Development required to provide users with view of archived data both on-line and off-line • Reduce size of Live Movex to enable copy for QA
Developments • Modification N3046 written by Intentia to create an On-line Movex Archive Environment, accessible as a function from Standard Movex • Modification N3047 written to deliver restricted view capability within the environment • OS Data Manager from Vision Solutions installed in QA and LIVE to extract the required records for Archiving documented in MOD240 (Business Requirements Document).
Why OS Data Manager from Vision Solutions ? • OSD Relationship with Intentia – Assurance that products are compatible and development continues independent of Hagemeyer. • Data Manager allows HUKL to purge/archive data from within Movex files, abiding by the rules specified WHILST USERS ARE STILL ONLINE • Archive Models can be built easily given the appropriate Movex file structure knowledge. New models also regularly developed by Vision • Audit trail/detailed history of Archive jobs retained
Achievements • Single Step Archives (Purges to MVXBARC999) using Data Manager 5.1 • CINACC (Internal Accounting Entries) Agreement secured from FD’s – Records dated <20030101 successfully Archived removed 25Gb of total file size 100 GB • OSBSTD/STZ - Sales statistics <20030101 archivedrolling 24 months in Live retained. Division 901duplicate also archived. 50 Gb from total size107 Gb • PM400 – IBM performance statistics identified by Technical Team using the data manager and 500 Gb purged from the AS400. Resulted in 49% DASD utilisation figure – the lowest since go – live. Utilisation at 16/05/05 is 56%
Achievements • Batch Orders (OXHEAD) • OINVIP/ZHVIIP – Invoices in Progress } • OTRSMS (Sales/Marketing System) } 74 Gb recovered • 2 Step Models Developed • Customer Orders • Customer Invoices • Requisition/Distribution Orders • Purchase Orders • Movex On-line Archive Environment Delivered – 12th November 2005.
Phase 1 Archive Jobs in progress Jobs now being run on Data Manager 6.1 • Internal Accounting Entries (Cinacc) run 2 >20040101 • Order Entry Statistics (OSBSTD) >20050101 • Customer Orders • Customer Invoices • Inventory Movement Orders

Phase 1 Estimated Savings/Benefits • 371Gb (approx 10%) of Total DASD storage capacity • Huge reduction in Movex file numbers to enhance performance. E.g OOLINE from 121,664 records to 85,165 • Enable copy of Live to produce new QA environment by end QTR 1 • If all goes to plan……………..
