THE EFFECTS OF THE ENDOCRINE DISRUPTOR, BISPHENOL-A ON THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE RAT PUP (Rattusnorvegicus) Original work by C. O. Keeler, R. E. Hampton, K. M. Gough, D. A. Dubay, and A. T. Huyck Next Step Experimental Design for Biology 484 by: Theodore J. Krajowski and Julia K. Stentor Department of Biology, Saginaw Valley State University INTRODUCTION In the introduction section of the poster, what you will write about is background information that is pertinent to the study you are presenting. This could and should include background information, goals and objectives, and also hypotheses) that the authors are testing. RESULTS In this section, you will report the major findings of the original research article in such a way that it is visually interesting to the viewer and relevant to YOUR NEXT STEP. Basically, select the pertinent results that will help to show the next step. You may cut-and-paste graphs, tables, and charts from the original article, BUT, it is typically much better for you to remake these items yourself so that you may edit and shape the focus. Be sure to refer to what is important in each graph with some text of your own. INTRODUCTION OF THE NEXT STEP EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN In this section, you will give background material that is relevant to the way in which you will suggest proceeding with the experiment as your next step in this research topic. You will undoubtably have some citations here from other journal articles that you will extract background information. Ioijoiugoiues. Sefosefse..s DATA TO BE COLLECTED AND METHODS OF ANALYSIS OF RESULTS In this section, you will want to describe in detail the types of results you will be anticipating from this experiment. For example, what are the measurable points of interest that you will be able to obtain data about from this research? What types of statistical tests would be useful in the analysis of these data? Which aspect(s) of your experimental design will allow you to obtain these data? As this section does not have ACTUAL data in it, often the best presentation style may be in the form of a table of some sort that is then described using adequate text. DISCUSSION AND POTENTIAL CONCLUSIONS This will likely the largest section of this portion of the poster. Here you will talk about WHY you think your research design does take the next important step in research of this sort, you will talk about the potential value that we could obtain from the data that you would collect in this research, and you will talk about the potential conclusions and their meaning. Gwerhwerh w DISCUSSION In this section, you will need to write in a well developed , condensed form, a summary of the significance of the results of the original research article you are basing your next step experimental design on. Otoeo to/ tor t rt l / MATERIALS & METHODS This is the space where you will provide the abbreviated view of the materials and methods of the original study. You must work hard to condense your writing so that you can present adequate dettail in a very small space. Often times a well crafted, bulleted list can be effect, but be sure to include enough detail. Blah blah, blah, ogiaoiijuoijwoierfoiaoidn o woitnhaoinoai. Uhoiuuoiahjofoienoieigonaoineogoin Aoioiaidiongoanonaditaoianidolaion into aiionogoin . NEXT STEP MATERIALS & METHODS Obviously, here you will VERY CAREFULLY outline your project including necessary materials as well as a description (using detail) of the methods you would employ in this next step in the research. Bulleted lists can be helpful and will allow you to be more condensed in your writing, so they are suggested, but these lists will need substantial detail. Pictures of equipment and proceedures are very helpful here. CONCLUSIONS In this section, the use of bulleted lists *can* potentially save you some space, but you must be careful to fully explain the authors conclusions, so it is important to have a good blend of conciseness AND detail. LITERATURE CITED IN NEXT STEP EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN Here you will list any and all references you have for this section of your work. LITERATURE CITED Here, cite the relevant work from the original article that was cited and used in your introduction, etc.
