OBJECTIVES • Build dummy and seat model. • Insert into Nastran model of Car. • Run Three simulations. • Roll car on an axis. • Cause rollover by colliding perpendicular with a 6” curb at 35 mph. • Cause rollover by hard right-hand turn with high tire friction.
BUILDING DUMMY AND SEAT • Models are all built with SolidWorks. • All constraints are placed using mates in SolidWorks and then modified in Nastran. • Dummy is modeled after a 5’ 9” person, but had to be modified to 5’ 2” to fit into the car. • Four springs were added around the neck to stiffen its movement.
Test 1 Rolling On An Axis • In Nastran a rotating constraint is applied to the center of the car’s frame. • The car will be given a velocity to produce one complete roll.
Tests 2 & 3 • Rollover Caused by Curb: • The car will be given a velocity of 35 mph perpendicular to a 6” curb. • Rollover by turn and friction. • The car will be given a velocity of 35 mph and the tires will be rotated to the left or right. • Due to previous experience with car model, the friction on the road and tires needs to be high to cause a rollover.
Results Results: • Tests have not been simulated, therefore no results. • In all three tests the seat beat and the torso of the dummy will be analyzed to find max stresses and stress concentrations.
