Directions • Write these in your writing section and make sure to include the examples.
Simple sentence or independent clause- • Contains a subject and a verb and expresses a complete thought. • Example: Some students like to study in the mornings. • Juan and Arturo play football every morning.
Compound Sentence • contains two independent clauses joined by a coordinator. (coordinators spell FANBOYS-for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) • Examples: I tried to speak Spanish and my friend tried to speak English. • Alejandro played football, so Maria went shopping.
Complex Sentence • Has an independent clause joined by one or more dependent clauses. A complex sentence always has a subordinator such as • Although After • Though when • Even though until • While whenever • Whereas before • Since if • So that as if • Because whether • unless
Complex Sentence examples • Although it’s going to rain, I plan on going swimming. • After I go running, I’m going to the gym.
Exclamatory and Interrogative • Exclamatory-ends in an exclamation mark • I’m going to the concert tonight! • Interrogative-asks a question • What’s the test going to be over?
