  4. Thus far in our studies we’ve considered the sanctuary in Eden, the Mountain Sanctuary and the Wilderness Sanctuary. Through this study we’ve been able to see something of the terrible nature of sin as well as God’s wonderful plan of salvation. However, while the earthly sanctuaries and feasts taught about God’s plan of salvation, there was a problem, they didn’t really take care of sin. Why?

  5. Reason #1 Heb. 8:2,5 Heb. 8:2 (NKJV) a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man. Heb. 8:5 who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He said, “See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” -The earthly sanctuary was not the real one, it was just a copy.

Reason #2 Heb. 9:9 Heb. 9:9It was symbolic for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make him who performed the service perfect in regard to the conscience— – It was an imperfect figure (parable) that couldn’t make the priest prefect. Reason #3 Heb. 7:23 Heb. 7:23Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. – The earthly priests could not continue but died. Why did they die? (Rom 3:23; 6:23)

  7. Reason #4 Heb. 10:4 Heb. 10:4For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. -It’s sacrifices didn’t take away sin. Reason #5 Heb. 10:11 Heb. 10:11And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. -Though offered again and again the earthly sacrifices did not take away sin.

Reason #6 Heb. 9:8 Heb. 9:8the Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way into the Holiest of All was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing. -The way into the holiest had to be made manifest (shown) and this could not happen while the earthly tabernacle was still standing. So - Sin is a much bigger problem than many think! Getting rid of it is no small task!

  9. Getting back to the holiest of all sanctuaries - the heavenly sanctuary

  10. With whom did sin originate and where? John 8:44;Isaiah 14:12 John 8:44You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. Is. 14:12 (NKJV)“How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! -The devil was the father of sin from the very beginning. Sin originated in heaven!

  11. What was Satan’s position in the heaven? Ezekiel 28:14 Ezek. 28:14“You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. -Satan was the anointed cherub who covers. -He served on the holy mountain of God.

  12. Where do covering cherub’s work? Ex. 25:22 Ex 25:22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel. 1Ki 8:7 For the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above.

  13. What is in heaven’s ark? Rev. 11:19 Rev. 11:19And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament. -Satan served on the holy mountain of God (The sanctuary – Exodus 15:17). -He specifically worked in the Most Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary as a covering angel for the ark of God. -The ark that contained God’s law.

  14. What was his original standing? Ezekiel 28:14 Ezek. 28:14 “You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. What is the significance of walking in fire? Ex. 19:18 Mount Sinai was altogether a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. Heb. 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire. -Satan was in the very presence of God!

  15. Why could Satan do this? Ezekiel 28:12,15 Ezek. 28:12“‘You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 15You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created… -All these words are loaded with meaning. Satan was the seal of perfection – KJV says “thou sealest up the sum”. When is says that he was “perfect in beauty” the word perfect is the same word used to describe a perfect sacrifice in the sanctuary.

  16. What happened?Isaiah 14:13,14 Is. 14:13 (NKJV) For you have said in your heart: “I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ -He wanted to ascend. He wanted to exalt his throne above the stars of God. He wanted to sit on the mount of the congregation. He wanted to be like the Most High.

  17. How did he go about attempting to have this happen? Ezekiel 28:16 Ezek. 28:16 (NKJV)“By the abundance of your trading You became filled with violence within, And you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane thing out of the mountain of God; And I destroyed you, O covering cherub, From the midst of the fiery stones. -He started an abundance of trading. -This led to violence and sin.

What happened as a result of his influence? 2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6; Revelation 12:7-9 2Pet. 2:4“The angels… sinned…” Jude 6“The angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode…” Rev. 12:7“And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought… and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven… 9 So the great dragon was cast out… to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

  19. What was Satan still allowed to do? Job 1:6,7 Job 1:6Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them. 7 And the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?”So Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth…” -The devil, with all his defilement still had access to heaven.

  20. In addition Satan worked through earthly powers to do what? Daniel 8:9 - 11 Dan. 8:9 And out of one of them came a little horn… 10 And it grew up to the host of heaven; and it cast downsome of the host and… stars to the ground, and trampled them. 11 He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the dailysacrifices were taken away, and the place (foundation = rock) of His sanctuary was cast down. 12 …he cast truth down to the ground…

  21. Does the NT see problem? Hebrew 9:22-26 Heb. 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. 23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: 25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; 26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

  22. According to the author of Hebrews, who finally was placed in position to do the necessary work in the Heavenly Sanctuary? Hebrews 8:1,2 Heb. 8:1 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.
