Who is the GSA? • A fellow graduate student who has a personal understanding of the various personal and academic challenges involved in pursing an advanced degree • An employee of the Graduate School who is knowledgeable about University policies and procedures • A liaison between graduate students and administrative or academic departments throughout the University • A social worker with experience listening to others’ concerns and helping them to solve both inter- and intrapersonal conflicts
The Role of the GSA • To serve as a resource for graduate students • To assist graduate students in resolving conflicts with University faculty, staff, personnel, or fellow students • To guide students through any difficulties with the administrative tasks of graduate education • To act as a voice for the graduate student population at large • To coordinate and facilitate interdisciplinary colloquia centering around topics of interest and import to graduate students
