Background DFC budget cut 80% Uncertainty going forward is main issue Specialist funding (£250k) – only guaranteed for 2011/2012 6thform funding equalising from schools to lower college levels and cutting guided learning hours National formula funding – this may affect Schools in the South to greater effect

Virtualisation - The Benefits • Electricity • 24 physical servers to 9 physical servers • Cooling • Less servers to cool has cut down on our need to increase our cooling facilities • Maintenance • Less physical servers to maintain • Virtually no downtime • Responsive • Easily install new server • Easily increase resources available to a server

  7. Desktop Virtualisation • Microsoft VDI • Hyper-V • Windows 7 virtual machines • Thin client stations are cheaper, last longer • Users get a full Windows 7 experience • All updates to software are applied at server level
