Type of analysis In the first example, we are selecting: Level of Analysis: Overall Institution Time Period: Cumulative 26* year period Type of Analysis: Number of Papers *Note: The USI offers a Cumulative 26 year period in the 2007 version
Number of papers overall, 2002-2006. This shows the most recent 5 years timing option, ranked.
Trend analysis The “5-year overlapping periods” option allows you to normalize the trend line and remove unusual highs or lows. Select “Overall Institution” in “5-year overlapping periods” to obtain a 26-year trend in growth of papers.
Citation impact Similarly, If we choose to analyze Citation Impact, we can do so using the 5-year overlapping periods. Citation impact = Cites/papers.
Citation impact for the 2001-2006 period(Citation Impact = Cites/papers)
Impact relative to the world Citation impact is more meaningful when compared to world averages. We compare average cites per paper for each of the institutions (Impact) against the average Cites per paper worldwide (Imp Base) If the Relative Impact (Rel Imp) is over 1.0, the institution’s impact is higher than average.
Field with institution: # papers Use the “Rank” toggle button to sort the institutions by paper *Note: Only 4 institutions (CMU, BGSU, BSU, & MTSU) and 2 fields (Physics & Performing Arts) included here due to amount of information.
