  1. Gordon LaurieCell Biology Frank Velez (Grad School bound Lab Spec) Ningning Wang (Lab Spec Senior), Yinghui Zhang (Postdoc), Liu Ming (Postdoc), Will Carroll (Med Student (2nd year), Jennifer Tran (Undergrad)

  2. ‘Lacritin’ in Epithelial Cell Biology • We study epithelial secretion, renewal and cytoprotection • The epithelial-specific mitogen ‘lacritin’ provides a convenient tool • Lacritin stimulates prosecretory, mitogenic and cytoprotective signaling that is biphasic and cell type restrictive

  3. Possible Rotation Project #1 • Study NFAT – mTOR synergy in lacritin signaling and in germative/non-germative epithelial renewal Wang et al, J Cell Biol ‘06

  4. Possible Rotation Project #2 • Study how lacritin stimulates active heparanase prod’n in epithelia. Examine cross-talk with purinergic receptors. Ma et al, J Cell Biol ’06; & unpublished

  5. Possible Rotation Project #3 • Study whether lacritin via epithelia or directly plays a role in sensory neuron growth or activity Samudre et al, submitted

  6. Other information • Weekly lab meetings, available PI, cooperative lab interactions • Lacritin consortium meetings 3x per year • NIH funded (R01’s EY013143, EY018222) • PI directs BTP (T32 GM08715) • http://people.virginia.edu/~gwl6s/home.html/Home.html
