It means promoting the quality of life in a community, through both political and non-political processes.”[1] [1] Thomas Ehrlich, Ed. How can my organization fit into many different majors? • Think outside the box • Can you use marketing help? What about statistical analysis of data? How about oral histories of people involved with your organization? There are many different ways to engage students, even outside or your main focus area.
Tips for engaging students • Flexible hours • Meaningful work • Well organized/coordinated work • Work with people/clients • Ability to see outcome of work (in some form) • Ability to use special skills/talents • Ability to be creative
Things to do on campus… • Be a guest speaker on campus • Help host a film or discussion • Bring important issues to our attention • Tap into one of our annual programs (VWIL service day, Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, etc.)
What we need from you… • Fill out a form (or multiple forms) for various volunteer activities with your organization • Send or bring us brochures, mission statements, contact information, and other helpful materials
Community Service Fair Tuesday, January 15 • Fill out a form to participate in a Community Service Fair during the Fall semester each year. It’s a great way to connect with students AND faculty and to get more volunteers at your organization!
