Community Notification System (CNS) • Purpose: To rapidly broadcast one-way messages via telephone/voice, cell phone/SMS text, and e-mail to parents, staff, community members, and students. • Capable of sending both emergency and non-emergency messages, in multiple languages, to one or many stakeholder groups. • Only authorized personnel at the District and campus levels will be able to send messages, both from the Internet or their phones.
Community Notification System (CNS) • Will integrate with our Student Information System and other enterprise databases to create ready-made accounts. • Users will be able to update contact information online. • Plan is to implement this system District-wide by next August (would like to begin a small pilot May/June)
Progress to Date • Released Request for Proposals last fall • Six proposals were received by the November 18, 2009 due date • 18-member committee met in January to evaluate and rank the proposals (Phase I evaluation) • Discussed with Finance Committee (Feb. 9) and Academics Committee (Feb. 17); set aside local funding • Committee selected three finalists, each of which did a 90 minute demonstration for the committee in February • After Phase II evaluation, ready to recommend a finalist
CNS Recommendation • SchoolMessenger • Ranked highest • Best meets the requirements as stated in the RFP • Least expensive (by $12,000 annually) • The only one with a Community Portal (in addition to a Parent Portal) • Other features that set SchoolMessenger apart: • More automatic language translations (30 vs. 21) • Larger attachment size when sending e-mail • Parent portal and community portal (for updating contact information) available in Spanish and English
SchoolMessenger • Texas clients include Dallas ISD, Plano ISD, Austin ISD, Lubbock ISD, Frisco ISD, Amarillo ISD, Garland ISD • Redundant hosting sites throughout the U.S, using Tier 1 voice telecommunication networks; all major carriers • Based in California • Evaluation and pricing data included in packet
