(Counting on, back, uses fingers) IA: Invented Algorithm Derived Fact Strategies Doubles, use of 10 facts (Ex: 5+9=? I know 5+5=10 and 4 more is 14. It’s 14.) Grouping Strategies Combines 10s and 1s (Ex: 5+9=? 5+10=15 and 1 less is 14. So it is 14.) Other strategies Incremental, compensation (Ex: 26+ ___=40; If it were 30 it would be 10, since it is 26 it is 4 more, so it is 14. SA: Standard Algorithm/Recall 0: No Understanding/ Blank Paper 1: Minimal Understanding/ Incorrect 2: Developing Understanding Either a correct number sentence or one correct strategy 3: Complete Understanding One correct strategy with all symbols, numbers and solution 4: Advanced Understanding All of #3 and solution properly labeled (ex. ____ cars) Clearly explains thinking, either orally or verbally.
