Our Mission and Vision • As Honors Student Council we: • Represent and lead all honors students • Liaise between honors students and other university bodies • Bring the honors community together • Provide programming for honors students • Build student leaders • Vision for 2013-2014: • To involve more honors students and honors organizations, to increase the sense of community, and to commit to greater representation.
Attendance • Meetings are mandatory • Every other Monday (Rudder 510, 8:30 pm) • Excused absences will be assessed on an individual basis • 50% of all socials, events, etc. • Exceptions: D&D, mentoring (if not signed up)… • Required for: • End-of-semester dinner • Running for an officer position (after 1 semester)
Dues and Shirts • Dues • $25/semester • $40/year Pays for socials, end-of-semester dinner, subsidizes shirt costs, etc. • Shirts • Navy HSC classic = $10 • Periodic table = $12 (for members) Talk to Kendra about either!
Representation • Tristian Martinez • Seeking out opinions of honors students in regard to current/proposed honors policies • Desire to increase representation of colleges (whole organization) • Surveys • Independent research
Communications • Bridget O’Connell • Keeping in touch with the Honors Office • Event calendar • Sending out information to general honors population • Advertising big events • Especially honors dorms
Research/Academics • Brandon Bordovsky • Seminars • E-Portfolio • “How to Get Involved in Undergraduate Research” • Planning the Honors Open House • Contacting honors professors • Scheduling venue and time
Intellectual Discussion • Travis Wainscott • Donuts and Discussions • Contacting and scheduling speakers • 2 per month
Activities • Emily Mason • Socials • Member retreats (1 per semester) • Post-meeting dinners • Dead week S’mores • Service • Tutoring/mentoring at local school
Special Events • John Barth • Large-scale speaker/presentation put on for all honors students • In the past: Human Genome • Possibilities: • T.E.D talk • Pixar speaker
H-Week • Ryan Flaherty • Scheduling full week of honors-related events in the spring • Fun activities- e.g. visiting the astronomy observatory • Interesting presentations • “Mini H-week” coming up this fall • Centered around weekend of the September 5th
