Pope Paul V: • Increased: piety and devotion Pope Sixtus V rebuilt Rome to symbolize the centrality of the Church (united)
Closer look at the Council of Trent • Defended Mass and Eucharist • Sacraments signs instituted by Jesus • Sacraments we received grace • Established seminaries to train priests • Ended indulgence abuse • Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition are one with God’s word.
Following the Council of Trent • New religious orders were formed: • Ursulines • Jesuits • Capuchins • result of these : • Curbed corruption in Church • Created new spiritual movements to reform people.

Vocal prayer – invites us to express our interior prayer externally • Good in groups • Meditative prayer – deeper understanding of our faith aided by icons, texts, Scripture • Contemplative Prayer - a silent resting in the presence of the Lord
