NCOICNetwork Centric Pattern (NCP)Metadata Strategy John A. Yanosy Jr. December 5, 2008
Problem Statement: Stakeholder Use of a Net-Centric Pattern (NCP) • Program offices have a significant investment in their architectures, which are in the form of standard architecture meta models (DoDAF, NAF, MODAF, TOGAF, …) • Question: How does a program office gain benefit from NCOIC Net-Centric Pattern guidance while leveraging the existing architecture investment? • NCPs provide a simple incremental standards based architecture guidance structure that can be easily integrated with current architecture investments models. • NCPs provide architectural guidance specified in a single architectural standards structure comprised of DoDAF meta model elements across relevant views, e.g., OpnV, CapV, TechV, SysV, SvcV, …) • NCP architectural meta model elements are consistent with DoDAF V2.0 Meta Model and NAF NATO Meta Model
Purpose NCP Metadata Model • Enable NCPs to be discovered using a common NCP profile meta model • Enable NCPs to be linked to other NCOIC guidance information artifacts (IPT ODs, BB repository products/services, standards) • Enable NCP incremental architecture structure and guidance to be imported and integrated with widely used architectural meta models, e.g., DoDAF 2.0 meta model, NAF NATO Meta Model, and DoD EA, and FEA EA reference models • Link the NCP internal meta model with an NCOIC Standards Architecture Classification Model that has the same architectural meta model elements that can be mapped to standards
NCP Metadata Strategy • Adopt standards for NCP discovery profile metadata and add unique NCOIC elements • Dublin Core, DoD Discovery Metadata Specification (DDMS) • Adopt meta model standards for creating NCP internal metadata structure • DoD 2.0 Meta data Model • NAF NATO Meta Model • Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA) Reference Model (FEA – RMs) • Develop NCOIC Standards Semantic Architecture Classification Model using above architectural meta model elements for architecture classification and leverage ISO-ICS • ISO - International Classification for Standards (ICS)
