What is Gray Water? • Wastewater that is collected separately from a sewage flow that does not contain industrial chemicals, hazardous wastes, or wastewater from toilets • Does not include in-house systems

How Will Gray Water Be Used? • Subsurface Only • Irrigation of plants not to be consumed by humans
Placement • Demonstrate 4 feet to ground water or a limiting layer • Horizontal Setbacks • Wells (drinking water)– 100 feet • Wells (other) – 50 Feet • Surface Water – 100 feet • Flood plains - 100 feet • Property lines – 2 feet
Design Criteria • Sizing – based on receiving soils • All components labeled as non-potable (purple pipe) • Surge tanks
Permitting • No DEQ review for in-house recycle systems • No DEQ review for retro fits to existing approved wastewater systems • New gray water reviewed by DEQ and permitted by the county
Waste Segregation • Need an approved wastewater disposal system • May include kitchen waste
Gray Water and Public Wastewater Connections • Need the approval of the local entity
