  2. Homework • Monday through Friday • 30-45 minutes • Includes 10-15 minutes of reading

  3. Elementary Marking System • 4= Your child consistently exceeds expected performance (accomplished). • 3= Your child demonstrates successful performance (proficient). • 2= Your child is progressing toward successful performance with difficulty. • 1= Your child is not showing progress toward successful performance.

  4. Grading How high can you go? 4-In the story, The Courage of Sarah Noble, Sarah’s father left her in the woods while he went back for the rest of the family. Sarah was worried and sad. She was afraid of the noises and the Indians. I would’ve been too. 3-Sarah was sad when her father left. She was afraid to be alone. 2-Sarah was sad. 1-she waz sad.

  5. Band/Orchestra Lessons • Most fourth graders take lessons at various times during the week. • Lessons take place during class time. • Students are required to get and complete any missed work due to lessons. • Assignment may need to be completed in study hall at home.

  6. Make-up Assignments • Call office • Sent home with schoolmate • Picked up by parent (after 3:20)

  7. Parent Signature • Assignment notebook signed daily • Parent or teacher may write notes or comments in assignment notebook as necessary

  8. Completed Papers • Friday letter - week’s highlights • Work is sent home biweekly • Parent signature required on letter • All work should be sent back to school for end of the year portfolio

  9. Incomplete work • Study hall during recess • Time-out/office • Lower grades • Conference with parent

  10. Math Facts • Eight Weeks to Mastery Program • Parent Sheet to Review and Initial • Facts Test/Flash Cards for the Remainder of the Year

  11. Study Hall • Make up missed assignments • Complete incomplete assignments • “Get-Ahead” if you have a busy evening • Coming to class unprepared * Not always a negative consequence * A student may choose to go to study hall.

  12. Required Reading • 25 books every year • 2-3 books per month • Variety of genres • Chapter books (books @ their level)

  13. Parental Help • Multiplication Facts • Check Homework • Reading & Writing Practice • Review Spelling Words • Check and Sign Assignment Notebook Daily

  14. Snacks • Small Nutritional Snack • 10:00-10:10 a.m.

  15. Parties We celebrate: *Halloween *Winter Holiday *Valentine's Day *Birthdays Please send: -Individual treats -Enough for approx. 20 students

  16. 100 % Effort Celebrations • Held monthly • Recognizes students who consistently show outstanding effort • Not linked to academic performance

  17. 100% Effort Guidelines • I am always prepared for all classes, including physical education, music, library, and all academic subjects. • I accept responsibility for participating in music lessons - remembering lesson times and making plans to catch-up on missed class work. • I complete homework and class work to the best of my ability. • I am respectful to all adults and students. • I show appropriate behavior on the bus and in the cafeteria.

  18. 100% Effort Guidelines • I work on extra projects without being reminded, such as our State reading requirement and extra-credit projects offered by the teachers. • I am a good role model for other students. • I demonstrate that “Academics Matter.” • I am able to work independently and with others. • I keep my belongings and my desk organized.

  19. Fourth Grade Testing • ELA- Week of Jan. 12-16 • Math- Week of March 2-6 • Science- Between April 8-May 6 *Students will be well prepared and comfortable by test day!
