TU STORM 2007 Missions • This year each mission will be considered independently of the others for awards. • There are no comprehensive scores over all the missions. • Teams can attempt as few as one or as many as five missions. • Teams can be divided up into squads each of which will attempt a single mission.
TU STORM 2007 Missions • We are recommending that flash drives be used to store project files for each mission. • This will keep coordination of programming tasks to a minimum. • It would allow each HS Team to divide the tasks into squads each attempting one of the missions
TU STORM 2007 Missions • The Two-step dance • Retrieve relic from ancient temple • Navigate the mined tunnel • Complete the Inventor CAD design of a TU-STORM-class self-righting robot • The animation mission consist of producing 3dsMax animations of the three programming missions
The Two-step Dance • Uses the B/W sensors and the encoders • The Two-step motions are as follows: • Move to the Left step box and while facing the audience: • Make one distinctive nod of your head to the right • Make two distinctive nods of your head to the left • Move to the Right step box and while facing the audience: • Make your arm touch the floor and leave it down • Bow your head facing the audience and leave it down • Scoring • 50 points for reaching a step box and completing specified moves correctly • Up to 20 points can be earned for uploading working code that successfully completes a mission. Program readability and documentation will be included in this score
Retrieve relic from an ancient temple • Uses distance sensors, banner sensor, and arm • Navigate through the labyrinthic corridors of the ancient temple, retrieve a relic from its altar, and exit the temple. • The altar is marked by the white marbled floor which distinguishes it form the dark corridors of the temple. • The objectives of this mission are to follow the decaying wall of the ancient temple, locate the altar, pick up the relic, and exit the temple. • The altar is marked with a white circle of 19" diameter. • The exit of the temple is marked by a white tape across the path. • Scoring: • 80 points for reaching the border of the chute and announcing • 80 points for retrieving the supplies form the drop point and announcing • 80 points for exiting the temple and announcing • Program Style: Up to 20 points can be earned for uploading working code that successfully completes a mission. Program readability and documentation will be included in this score.
Navigate the mined tunnel • Uses the B&W and distance sensors • Escape from the City of Doom through the Mined tunnel • The objectives for the robot are to maneuver through a walled path which is mined while avoiding triggering the mines, and to exit safe and sound at the other end of the path. Triggering the mines will disable the robot. • The minefield will be populated with visible mines. Each mine is a 6"X6" white object which is sensible to the weight of the robot. The mines along the tunnel are very sensitive and will be triggered when any part of the robot, wheels or rear caster, touches then causing a light to turn on. • The walls are visible but not mined but robots that crash on the walls will be disabled. All judges decisions are FINAL. • Triggering the mines or crashing onto the walls will disable the robot. • Scoring: • 12 points for each feet traversed in the path measured from the entrance. • 100 point for exiting safely at the other end of the path and announcing. • Program Style: Up to 20 points can be earned for uploading working code that successfully completes a mission. Program readability and documentation will be included in this score.
Inventor CAD design • Complete the Inventor CAD design of a TU-STORM -class robot. • The robot should have a full drive train, including electronics, power supply, motors, and wheels.
Animation Mission • The animation mission • Produce 3dsMax animations of the three programming missions
Practice Fields and Objects • Each school will be responsible to make their own Practice Fields and Objects. • The minimal supplies necessary are as follows. • Opened Chute: 19" Diameter Circle made out of white construction paper. • Access to a dark color carpet. • Mines -6”X6” made out of white construction paper • Dance steps –can download and print
