Services & Duties • Identify new projects with Facilities Project Manager (PM) • Assign EHS Project Liaison & assemble EHS Project Review Team • Review projects, plans and meetings • Identify & facilitate resolution of potential EHS issues • Work with Project Manager
Services & Duties • Coordinate “hand off” to EHS Coordinator/DLC EHS Lead Contact • Conduct post occupancy review of EHS issues • Provide oversight of Laboratory and Facility Decommissioning Procedures • Oversight of EHS portion of building commissioning • Provide input of EHS issues with MIT Green Building Initiative • Provide oversight of EHS review of DOF’s Building Systems Design Handbook
Interaction with Other Departments and Outside Agencies • Department of Facilities • Committee for the Review of Space Planning (CRSP) • DLCs • Office of Government and Community Relations • Legal • Real Estate • Factory Mutual • Regulatory Agencies
Roles • EHS Project Liaison • EHS Project Review Team • EHS Construction Liaison • EHS Coordinator
EHS Project Liaison • Assigned by the EHS Lab Design Team Leader • Serve as an EHS point of contact • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) • Participate in process with Department of Facilities • Coordinate participation by discipline
EHS Project Liaison (2) • Meet with EHS Project Review • Provide EHS comments • Will be involved in the Impasse Resolution Process • Ensures documentation of EHS recommendations is preserved
EHS Project Review Team • Review plans • Provide EHS comments • Attend design team review meetings • Understands regulations, codes, & internal procedures • Post occupancy review of EHS issues
EHS Construction Liaison • Review plans • Advise/support Project Manager (PM) • Conduct site safety inspections • Provide EHS training for PMs • In coordination with PM, ensure the safety of MIT personnel during a construction project • In concert with the PM, monitor that construction
EHS Coordinator – Proposed Role • Participates as a project team member for their DLC • Provides input • Assists PIs/DLCs in providing laboratory-specific and/or DLC-specific information • Works with the Service Team Leader, EHS Project Liaison, Construction Liaison and EHS Project Review Team • Assist DLC with participation & documentation during the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) inspection • Assists in conducting post occupancy review of EHS issues
