Timely Filing • Each payor has their own individual timely filing deadline. • This means that within a certain time span from the date of service, a claim must be filed in order to receive payment.
Timely Filing • What do the time spans look like? Time spans vary based upon each payor. The following are examples from 2007 and are subject to change during renegotiation. • TennCare payors - 120 days from date of service • BCBST – 180 days from date of service • Cigna - 180 days from date of service • Medicare 1 year + 3mos from date of service • Health Spring PPO 90 days from date of service • United – 180 days from date of service
Timely Filing • What does this mean to me? • Please review the monthly D&H billing as soon as possible because we must meet the timely filing deadlines to the individual payors in order to reroute charges. • Please route patient billing questions to the Department of Finance, Clinical Trials Billing Compliance as soon as you are aware of them.
