What is a VA work-study? This program provides part-time employment to students receiving VA education benefits who attend school three- quarter time or more. The student may work at the school veterans' office, VA Medical Facilities, the VA Regional Office, or at approved State employment offices. Work-study students are paid either the State or Federal minimum wage, whichever is greater. Florida currently is $7.79 per hour NOTE: Active Duty Military are not eligible for this program.
Examples of acceptable work are: • The preparation and processing of necessary papers and other documents at educational institutions • Assisting with dissemination of general information regarding Veteran benefits and/or services • Providing assistance to Veteran students with general inquiries about Veteran benefits via phone, email, or in person • Maintaining and organizing veteran-related files
How to get started? Student must complete a VBA 22-8691 Supervisor must complete a job description This must include name of the student, work site location, supervisors name, email address, telephone number and fax number Copy of Certification of Enrollment VA form 22-1999 Email copies of all documents to wks.vbaatg@va.gov Do not start a student to work before you receive an approved contract. Supervisor and student must sign off contract and return to RPO
How will the student get paid? Use the e-Time Record spreadsheet available from Atlanta RPO Work-Study team.
Submit at the completion of 50 hours worked or once a month, whichever comes first. (maximum contract = 25 times the number of weeks in the enrollment period 16x25 = 400 hours) Use whole numbers and decimals rounded to nearest quarter hour e.g. 15 mins = .25, 30 mins = .50, 45 mins = .75 Print out sheet , initial and sign where indicated (student & supervisor) Mail, fax or scan & email form to Atlanta RPO Student will be paid in approximately 10 business days Payment inquires: Students - 1-888-442-4551 (wait 7 working days) Voc Rehab - 1-800-827-1000 Certifying officials ONLY– Linda (404-929-3117) James (404-929-3010)
