Sincerely, Mr. Boggs • Reading We will begin our first story in reading this week entitled, A Fine, Fine School. Our focus will be on vocabulary words, comprehension skills and phonics. The students were introduced to the vocabulary terms, standard form and written form. An example has been provided below.Standard Form: 5,482 (digits only)Written Form: Five thousand, four hundred eighty-two (words only) • This week in math, we will again be working with place-value using place-value strips . The students will be introduced to the vocabulary term, expanded form. In expanded form, the students will be asked to break down the value of each number or EXPAND the number based on place-value. Lastly, the students will begin to compare and order numbers using the greater than, less than symbol(s). • Expanded Form: 5,482 (5,000 + 400 + 80 + 2) • Social Studies: This week we will begin to look at both continents and oceans that surround our world. The students will have a brief quiz over this content on Thursday, August 29th. A study guide will be set home on Monday.
