  5. What is a Goal? . A goal or objective is a projected state of affairs that a person or a system plans or intends to achieve—a personal or organizational desired end-point in some sort of assumed development. Many people endeavor to reach goals within a finite time by setting deadlines.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goal

  6. Why Set Goals? • Provides direction and purpose • Improves performance • Bridges the gap between where you are and where you want to be • Motivates us to succeed

  7. What is a SMART Goal? • Specific- What exactly will you accomplish? • Measurable-How will you know when you have reached this goal? • Achievable-Is achieving this goal realistic with effort and commitment? Have you the resources to achieve this goal? If not, how will you get them? • Relevant-Why is this goal significant to you life/career? • Timely-When will this goal be achieved?

  8. Smart Goal Worksheet-Activity Take 10 minutes to fill out worksheet listed “Smart Goal Worksheet”. Please try and pick a goal that you want to achieve that can also benefit the district.

  9. Reflection Activity • Divide up into the following groups- • Jason, Linda, Christa • Ann Marie, Anne, Matt P • Matt C, Jen, Tom, Paris • Take 15 minutes to share your ideas • Pick one person to post one idea of goal setting per each group of three. Pick one of your ideas of goal setting and post it to the flip chart. • List the goal and then how it applies to you and the district. • Briefly list your answers on the flip chart to the SMART goals.

  10. Why this activity? You have just completed a portion of your PDP of short or long term goals. Benefit to this exercise is to implement your goals early in the year.

  11. Key Take-aways Follow-up

  12. “The reason most people never reach their goals is they don’t define them, learn about them, or even seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.” Denis Waitley
