Day 1 Agenda • Signon the attendance shift • Turn in your double-entry journal chapter 4 & Ch. 2 vocabulary Log • Prepare the quiz • http://facweb.northseattle.edu/jjung/ • Homework • Start vocabulary log on p. 28 • Write 4 sentences summary for the advantage and disadvantage to online shopping. • 3. Go to the website, http://facweb.northseattle.edu/jjung/ • - First, Listen to the file 7 and follow along in your reading ‘Internet Shopping’ p. 24 – 25 (Check pronunciation). • - After listening, read one more time by yourself (Quiet reading). • 4. Finish comprehension questions (7, 8, 9, 10) after reading ‘Internet shopping’ on p.26-27
Write 4 sentences for the advantage and disadvantage to online shopping. 1. Read the reading text again. 2. Pick the key words from each paragraph. • Which information do you think is important to explain each paragraph? 3. Write a sentence for each paragraph using the key words.
Before reading ‘Internet Shopping’ • New vocabulary strategy Do you remember the first strategy • using be-verb (is / are) when you see the new vocabulary? This time, look at the parentheses ( ) or a dash —.
Understanding new vocabulary • Using be-verb (is / are) • Using parentheses () Example They sell products in many categories (groups of similar things). • Using a dash “ – “ Example People can search for – look for – a book on the Internet.
Now you listen and read the reading text with the CD. • Check the pronunciation. • Check the new vocabulary you don’t know. • Finish the comprehension questions on pg. 26 & 27
Day 2 Agenda • Starter: Yes / No question • Sign on the attendance sheet • Turn in your summary • Check the comprehension questions • Practice Summary • Talk about presentation • Homework • Study spelling and definition on pg. 28 for tomorrow • Study irregular past tense on p.23 and make a sentence with the verb (spelling test tomorrow) • Do your DEJ for RW chapter 5 (due Thursday)
What is a summary? A summary is a retelling of a story that • is always shorter than the original text. • must be at least two paragraphs long. • has no ending. • gives new information that was not in the story.
Summary • Shorter text • Same main ideas as the original text • has key words • Your own word
Day 3 Agenda • Sign on the attendance sheet • Prepare the spelling quiz • Main ideas – Textbook pg. 29 • Scanning Skills • Chapter choice and Presentation • * Homework • Finish your DEJ for RW Ch. 5 • Study chapter 2 vocabulary quiz for tomorrow. • Read the text ‘Predicting the Future of Shopping’ again and write a main idea sentence (one sentence of each paragraph).
Day 4 Agenda • Sign on the attendance sheet • Turn in your Ch. 5 DEJs • Vocabulary quiz • Summary practice • Reading skills • Chapter and presentation discussion • * Homework • Start your DEJ for RW Ch. 6 • Finish your Ch. 2 Vocabulary Log (Turn in on Monday) • *For the vocabulary pronunciation, listen and repeat the audio file 6 & 8. That’ll help you to memorize words easily.
