How to Manage and Sustain Park and Nature Reserves By Mia, Jack, and Max
Environmental Threats • Too small to sustain variety of large animal species • Invasive species • Park in developing countries are rarely protected-1% • Picture of Velvet Grass in Yosemite Park
National Park • California’s Sequoia National Park has been negatively effected by polluted air, traveling hundreds of kilometers from cities and destroying these ancient trees
Solutions/Controversies • Book suggests at least 20% of earth’s land be protected to ensure reservation of biodiversity • In order to do so, funding is needed by the government, private organizations, etc. • People want this reserved land for industrial purposes • Trees to make paper products • Land for agriculture • Land to build cities
Terms Buffer Zones Habitat Corridors • An inner core of area protected by a reserved surrounding it • These are established protected areas between isolated reserves • Help support more species and allowing migration • Centers for evolution
Importance of Nature Reserves • Insure biodiversity • Preserve nature for future generations • Conserving natural resources/endangered species
