  10. Weekly Homework Expectations • Weekly homework assignments will be posted on our webpage each week. Students are expected to access our webpage, complete the assignments given for the day, and hand in the assignment the following day. • Nightly homework assignments should take approximately 10 - 15 minutes. Later in the year, homework may take 20 minutes. Please contact me if your child needs an excessive amount of time to complete assignments. • Please help your child return all books or worksheets in his/her folder the next school day unless stated otherwise. (This includes library books each week.) • Missing Homework: Students will be held accountable for missing assignments. Each student will be given one homework reminder with no penalty per marking period. After one reminder, students will miss one recess and complete missing homework at home along with the homework given that day. Recess will not be taken from a child if a parent note is sent to school explaining the situation for the tardy work.

  11. How Can Parents Help? • Be a positive role model for your child. • Take an interest in school activities/volunteer if possible. • Demonstrate a love for learning by sharing your thoughts on different subjects with your child. • Help your child develop good organizational skills, • Reserve a spot in your home for your child’s backpack and other school items. Pack the night before so your morning is less hectic. • Expect your child to carry his/her backpack, etc. • Put items in his/her locker independently. • Take responsibility for his/her actions. • Help your child accept mistakes and learn from those mistakes. • Let your child know you love and support them but are not there to do the work for them.

  12. Modeling What do you do if your child is confused or totally baffled about a homework assignment? Read the directions aloud. Tell your child what you believe the directions are asking him/her to do. Point out key words in the directions. Model how you would complete the task without actually completing the work. Ask your child if he/she is in agreement. Have your child complete the assignment with you monitoring the work. Periodically, stop and ask your child to explain what he/she is doing. Feel free to explain the process for him/her if there is uncertainty.
