PLANTS. PLANTS ARE VERY IMPORTANT SINCE WE AS HUMANS (ANIMALS) COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT THEM. THEY MAKE THE OXYGEN WE BREATH AND THE FOOD WE EAT IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. What’s wrong with this picture being in this slide show. Roots.

  3. Roots • ROOTS SOAK UP WATER AND MINERALS FOR THE REST OF THE PLANT TO USE –They hold the plant in place, store water and food ROOTS

  4. PARTS OF THE ROOT SYSTEM • ROOT HAIR – THIN TUBES THAT COME OUT OF THE ROOT WALL AND SUCK UP WATER AND MINERALS • ROOT CAP – PROTECTS THE MAIN PART OF THE ROOT AND HELPS PUSH THE ROOT DEEPER INTO THE SOIL

  5. Xylem tubes • Xylem tubes transports water and minerals from the roots through the stem to the leaves

  6. Phloem tubes • These tubes bring the food (sugar) down from the leaves through the stem to the roots and rest of the plant.

  7. Stems • Supports and connects the leaves and roots of the plant. The stem transports food from the leaves down to the rest of the plant and water and minerals from the roots to the leaves

  10. Leaf vein • The vein of the leaf are tiny tubes that bring water and minerals from the stem to the blade of the leaf

  13. Chlorphyll • Substance found in the chloroplast of leaves that traps the energy from the sun to make food (sugar)

  14. chloroplast • The cell organelle in plants that hold the chlorophyll

  15. photosynthesis • Energy from sun, carbon dioxide and water are transformed into food for the plant – simple sugars
