4. Let’s Talk About • Turn to page 202-203 • Let’s look at the pictures. • Why is one hiker helping the other? • People often help others in order to accomplish something.

5. Let’s Talk About • The Coast guard is trying to rescue people from the ocean. What risks do they take? • Coast guard rescuers are trained to help in these situations, but the rescuers are still very brave.

6. Let’s Talk About • These soldiers are on the island of Iwo Jima during World War II. • What is their goal? • What are the risks in helping others?

14. Vocabulary • Canteen- a small container for carrying water or other drinks • The soldier took a final swig from his canteen. • Confederacy- a group of countries or states working together • The southern states wanted to create a new nation, the confederacy, independent of the United States.
