Key Message • Tropical Depression Karen will no longer impact the Middle Atlantic region. However, a strong cold front will cross the region on Monday. • River flooding is not expected. • There is a chance of some minor urban and poor drainage flooding. • Expect 1-2 inches of beneficial rain with isolated higher amounts of 3-4 inches possible. Best chance for heavy rain along and east of I-95 corridor.

We can use the rain • 30 day rainfall has been 25-50% of normal. • Some rivers and streams are flowing at less than 25% of normal flows.
Flash Flood Potential • Graph on left shows that 3-4 inches or more of rain in 3 hours would be required in most areas to cause flash flooding. • Only 1-2 inches of storm total rain expected in most areas, with a small chance of isolated higher amounts possible. • There is a chance of some minor urban and poor drainage flooding. • Flash flooding is not expected.
River Forecasts • Except for some minor tidal flooding at the time of high tides at the SW Waterfront in Washington D.C., the National Weather Service is not forecasting any river flooding in the Middle Atlantic region with this rainfall event.
