“The Life of David - Part 5” Introduction • Now David was about to face his greatest temptation on his way to the throne. • He would have to deal with the temptation to seek revenge against Saul.
“The Life of David - Part 5” • Every one of us either has or will have to face the same temptation in our lives. • What we call it: • “My Rights” • “Justified retaliation”
“The Life of David - Part 5” • What God’s Word says about it: • 17Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. • 18If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. (Romans 12:17-18)
“The Life of David - Part 5” • 19Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. (Romans 12:19)

“The Life of David - Part 5” • David conquered his temptation. 6He said to his men, “The LORD forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the LORD’s anointed, or lift my hand against him; for he is the anointed of the LORD.” (1 Sam. 24:6)
“The Life of David - Part 5” • 7With these words David rebuked his men and did not allow them to attack Saul. And Saul left the cave and went his way. (1 Sam. 24:7)

“The Life of David - Part 5” Conclusion • David chose to do what was right in the sight of God, not men. 7When a man’s ways are pleasing to the LORD, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him. (Proverbs 16:7) • What can we learn from this event in the life of David?
“The Life of David - Part 5” 1. Since man has vices; expect to be mistreated. 2. Since mistreatment is inevitable; anticipate feelings of revenge. 3. Since revenge is predictable; purpose to act biblically and not carnally.
