Socrates • Teacher and a thinker • Created the Socratic method of thinking • He thought that people learned best when they ask questions • He made people angry because he made people question their beliefs • He was arrested for questioning the power of the Greek gods (religion) • On trial he refused to apologize and was sentenced to death • He calmly accepted his punishment and drank poison.
Plato • Student of Socrates • Created the Academy, a school to discuss different issues • He wrote “The Republic” • Thought society should be run by philosophers.
Aristotle • Plato’s student • People should live lives of moderation, or balance • Be a giving person but don’t give everything away • People should think about how their actions affect others (Reason) • Think logically
