WSU TC Dept. of Teaching and Learning • Undergraduate program: preservice teachers • Graduate programs: EdM, MA, EdD degrees and Professional Certification • Both EdM and EdD have STEM specializations • Faculty conduct research, teach, and provide service to the community
WSUTC/LIGO: Partners in Teacher Professional Development • Education students visit LIGO • K-8 preservice teachers work as docents • Co-partners on MSP grant/project • LIGO site for summer graduate course • Co-authorship of research paper and presentations
Future Projects at the LExC WSU TC Education Faculty will: • Develop content learning opportunities for pre/in-service teachers at the LExC • Increase opportunities for preservice teachers to work with K-12 students at the LExC • Conduct research on the prof. development of teachers in partnerships w/ scientists • Involve preservice teachers in all STEM content at the LExC
Developing WSU TC’s STEM Education at the LExC With the addition of the LExC there will be: • More opportunities for university faculty to learn how to teach content through inquiry • Stronger WSU TC STEM education programs • Intensive learning academies for science and math teachers from across the state • Motivation to increase in STEM education faculty
