  2. Bellwork – get folders. HAVE A SHEET FOR BELLWORK ONLY THIS WEEK THAT LIVES IN YOUR FOLDER  Japan lies to the east of Korea and China. Japan is an archipelago, or a chain of islands, that runs north to south in the Pacific Ocean. Many Japanese turned to the sea to make a living. They built villages along the coast and finished. The Japanese also traveled by ship among their many islands. Still, the seas around Japan kept the Japanese isolated, or separated, from the rest of Asia. As a result, Japan developed a strongly independent civilization. Using the text and the map, explain Japan’s geography. Cite once from the text. Create 1 inference from the map.

  5. With a partner – part 1 • In your textbook read Shinto: Way of the Spirits (just that reaction… don’t read the Prince Shotoku section!) PAGE 222 • Answer using complete sentences: What is animism? • Answer using complete sentences: How did the Japanese show respect to the kami? • Answer using RACE: Describe Shinto beliefs (Shintoism). Cite once from the text! • Show teacher for your SBG when FINISHED!

  6. With your partner – part 2 • Based on what you now know about Shintoism… write a letter persuading someone to follow Shinto beliefs. In the letter YOU already believe in Shintoism. • Include: • Who you are writing the letter to • One cite from the text • Animism • Kami • TURN IN TO TURN IN BIN! (these are due TOMORROW and this slide is posted to my webpage if you do not finish)
