  8. Cyworldreached it’s tipping point in 2010-11, with something between 20 and 25M active users in South Korea – about half of the total population of the country. But over the course of 2011 Cyworld started losing active users, due to a series of global and local trends: • The explosion of Facebook in the whole Asia-Pacific area (nowadays about 25% of total FB users come from Asia). • The huge growth of smartphone users, thus the need for more flexible platforms. • The rise of a strong Korean start-up scene, demanding more globally-connected social media.
