  3. How they used the gun The Gatling gun was crank operated. By spinning a crank on the back of the barrel the us military used it to tear through enemy lines for years

  4. Civil war The Gatling gun was first used by the confederacy in the civil war, but was later accepted by the union in 1866

  5. 1884 The year another version of the Gatling gun was made, the maxim gun, the first true fully automatic gun, using the force of the fire to reload the gun.

  6. 1895 The next stage in the Gatling gun line was a gun with ten barrels used in the Spanish-American war. It was used do to the in fighting in the army.

  7. planes Today, some versions of the Gatling gun, called miniguns, are used on planes to knock enemies out of the skies

  8. The modern day gatling guns • The modern day Gatling guns use straps and are more portable. Of course, today they are called chain guns, and the kind that use stands are called miniguns, which is ironic because they’re big.

  9. The Gatling gun was also used in the battle of wounded knee to gun down the Native Americans who were defenseless to the high speed bullets of the gun.
