  6. “But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven!

  8. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.

  9. II Cor5:21

  10. For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin,so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

  11. 2. What does it mean to repent?

  12. II Cor 7:10 (NIV)

  13. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

  14. “Godly sorrow”

  15. “Sorrow without regrets”

  16. Luke 13:3 (NIV)

  17. I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.

  18. Is 55:6-7

  19. Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near.

  20. 7 Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong.

  21. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.

  22. 3. How does repentance take place?

  23. It is an act of the human heart(will) that volunteers himself totally to turnfrom what is wrong and to turnto God to do & be what is right

  24. It is an act of God’s lovefor you that pullsyou to repentance

  27. Romans 2:4 (NLT)

  28. Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you?

  29. Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

  30. 4. Repentance is not just a one time experience. Sorrow for sin is our constant teacher.

  31. The same attitudethat is in our heartthat leads us to salvation, is the same attitude that keeps us from sin

  32. Eph4:17-24

  33. With the Lord’s authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused.

  34. 18 Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him.

  35. 19 They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.

  36. 20 But that isn’t what you learned about Christ.

  37. 21 Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him,

  38. 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.

  39. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.

  40. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
