MISSION & VISION STATEMENTS • The mission is to continue to operate as a centre of excellence through the provision of quality Technical, Vocational and Professional Education and Training thus contributing towards meeting the middle level human resource requirements of The Gambia. • The Vision is to efficiently and effectively contribute towards addressing the middle level human resource requirements of the Technical, Commercial and Industrial sectors of the country and the creation of opportunities for higher-level technical training through the: • provision of relevant, viable and marketable programmes that are sustainable. Engage with local and international partners for beneficial and mutual partnerships. • acquisition of a well trained, highly qualified and motivated Gambian staff that owns the process and can contribute effectively to the future development of the country.
KEY CHALLENGES FACED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE, ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY (USET). • Upgrading of physical resources • Effective use of ICT to deliver and manage the learning process • Accreditation of programmes • University industrial linkages
LESSONS LEARNED. • Staff capacity building (12 graduates). • Regional collaboration. • Learning best practices • Funding support • Nationwide Sensitisation on UNIDO use of R290 environmental friendly.
KEY IMPLEMENTATION ACTIONS. • Mentorship collaboration with: KNUST- Ghana DMU - Leicester the United Kingdom GIZ - Rehabilitation of outreach center YEP - Pedagogical training of staff • Promotion of strong Public Private Partnership GTTI signing MoU with LERR Group, Gaccon etc. • Policies for the governance of USET.
WAY FOWARD • Human Capacity Development. • Up grade the Physical Infrastructure • Up grade laboratories and equipment • Promote and strengthen the Culture of research and Development. • Improve on the ICT infrastructure and strengthened the information management system. • Strengthen Partnership both regionally and internationally.
