  1. Introduction to Forces of MotionUnit 1Lesson 6

  2. Let’s listen as I read the story.

  3. Open up your science notebook. Let’s create a title page for our new unit Forces of Motion. • Write Forces of Motion on your page and draw some ideas of forces of motion you learned from the book.

  4. Forces of MotionUnit 1

  5. Let’s learn our new vocabulary words. Have your Forces of Motion Vocabulary sheet ready.

  6. Forces of Motion Vocabulary • Force: • Push: • Pull: • Gravity: • Inertia: • Speed: • Motion: • Friction:

  7. Force: force is pushing or pulling on an object in order to produce motion.

  8. Push: To move something away from you by using force

  9. Pull: To move something towards you using force

  10. Gravity: the force that keeps things from flying off into space.

  11. Inertia: objects will not move unless force makes it move

  12. The toy car will not move unless the boy pushes it. It is in a state of Inertia.

  13. Speed: Move faster

  14. Motion: Movement

  15. Friction: a force that opposes the motion of any object moving on it.

  16. Now let’s talk about positional words

  17. In your science notebook draw a square in the middle of the page.

  18. Let’s put the new positional words around our square.

  19. over

  20. over under

  21. over right under

  22. over right left under

  23. I am going to draw a new square to discuss two new positional words. Draw a new square in your science notebook.

  24. above

  25. above below

  26. I am going to draw a new square to discuss two other positional words. Draw a new square in your science notebook.

  27. inside

  28. inside outside

  29. The small square is next to the large square. Draw an example of next to in your science notebook. You can also say the squares are beside each other.

  30. I am going to use the picture of the three kids to discuss three more positional words.

  31. The boy with the orange shirt is in front of the girl with the pink shirt. Draw an example of in front in your science notebook.

  32. The boy with the green shirt is behindthe girl with the pink shirt. Draw an example of behind in your science notebook.

  33. The girl with the pink shirt is betweenthe two boys. Draw an example of between in your science notebook. between

  34. Now let’s put what you learned to a test. Do the Positional Word Worksheet on your own.

  35. Today we were introduced to the concept of force of motion. We learned the definitions to many words that will help us with this unit.

  36. We also learned many positional words which will help us as scientists when describing observations.

  37. In our next lesson we will learn about pushes and pulls.

  38. Keep observing the world around you!
