OASES is committed to supporting and enhancing the educational experiences of the adult learner. Below are three important steps you should take to ensure your academic success. • General Education Advising Appointment • Getting Started Seminar
Welcome back to UNC Charlotte! Important topics readmitted students need to know before the semester begins: • OASES • Readmission Policies • SOAR • Advising & Registration • NinerNET • 49er Express • Financial Assistance • 49er Card • Student Health • Residency Determination • Parking • Graduation
OASES Office of Adult Students and Evening Services assists in recruiting and retaining students by providing accurate academic advice and information to prospective and enrolled adult, evening and weekend students. For more information click here.
Readmission Policies • Associate Degree Rule • Two Year Rule
Associate Degree Rule • If a student earns an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Fine Arts degree from a community college after the last attendance at UNC Charlotte, the Associate Degree Rule forgiveness policy applies (unless the Two Year Rule was used prior). • NOTE: Students may be readmitted one time under the “Associate Degree Rule” or the “Two-Year Rule” but not both.
Associate Degree Rule • In this case, a student is readmitted with a maximum of 64 credit hours and begins the new semester with a zero GPA. • Any prior UNC Charlotte credit that was not used towards completion of the associate degree can be requested to be included in the student's UNC Charlotte academic record through completion and approval of an Academic Petition form.
Two Year Rule • Any undergraduate student who has not been enrolled at UNC Charlotte for a minimum period of 24 consecutive months is eligible for one readmission under the "Two-Year Rule". • The "Two-Year Rule" will be applied automatically if the student is eligible. • Students electing not to have it applied may exercise this option by filling a form with the Office of the Registrar after consulting with their advisor and obtaining approval from the dean of their college.
Two Year Rule • If a student is readmitted under the provisions of the "Two-Year Rule", only those courses for which the student has received a grade of C or above (or H or P) can be used for academic credit. • The recalculated GPA will be based only on the courses that return with the student and the courses taken after readmission. • NOTE: Students may be readmitted one time under the “Associate Degree Rule” or the “Two-Year Rule” but not both.
SOAR • Students may choose to attend one of the many scheduled SOAR orientation sessions prior to their first semester. Visit soar.uncc.edu for additional information.
Advising & Registration • Before registering for classes, students must consult with an academic advisor. • OASES advises students about their general education requirements. Extended office hours are provided during the fall and spring semesters as well as summer terms. • Students who have declared a major should seek advising from their departmental advisor prior to registration. • Registration information can be found in Banner, via 49er Express or at registrar.uncc.edu.
49er Express • 49er Express is the university’s computing network. • Secure access to 49er Express is gained through a NinerNET username and password. • 49er Express provides access to the library, computing assistance, and other campus services. Visit 49erexpress.uncc.edu. • Campus information is primarily communicated through your personal uncc.edu email address.

Scholarships • OASES has a scholarship program for adult and non-traditional students. Details can be found at oases.uncc.edu. • The Osher Rentry Scholarship and the Carol A. Douglas Scholarship are specifically for students who have had a delay or interruption in their educational career.
Financial Aid • You must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at fafsa.ed.gov if you are interested in applying for scholarships or federal aid to attend UNC Charlotte. • Questions about financial aid can be directed to the Office of Student Financial Aid at 704-687-2461 or finaid.uncc.edu.
Financial Aid: Recent Changes • PELL Grant Eligibility • A recent change in the law limits the total lifetime amount of Pell Grant funding a student may receive to the equivalent of twelve (12) full-time semesters or six (6) years. This change affects all Pell Grant eligible students beginning with the 2012-13 award year. • Repeat Policy • Beginning with the 2012 spring term, students may only receive federal financial aid for one repetition (repeat) of a previously passed course. This means that students (undergraduate and graduate) who have already passed a course with a grade of D or better may only repeat the class one additional time and receive financial aid for that course. • No student may repeat a course a third time and receive financial aid for the course.
Tuition & Fees • Semester fee schedules are available at studentaccounts.uncc.edu.
50% Tuition Surcharge • Some students may face a 50% tuition surcharge when they exceed the set credit hour limit • For more information, please visit • http://registrar.uncc.edu/common-requested-information/tuition-surcharge
49er Card • All students need a valid student ID card. The card can be used for building access, to make purchases on-campus and to check-out library books. • 49er Card information can be found at aux.uncc.edu/49er.
Student Health and Immunization • UNC Charlotte’s Student Health Center can administer all required immunizations for students entering the university. Information related to student health and immunizations can be found at studenthealth.uncc.edu.
Immunization • Most UNC Charlotte students must have up to date immunizations to be enrolled in classes. • North Carolina law requires all entering students to submit proof of required immunizations to maintain enrollment at the University. Exemptions include the following: • Students registered only for off campus courses • Students only attending classes scheduled at 5:00pm or later • Students enrolled in weekend classes • Students taking a course load of four credit DAY hours or less per semester. • If a student lives in ON-CAMPUS Housing NONE of the exemptions apply. • If at any time a student previously exempted changes to on-campus courses, a course load of more than four credit day hours, or becomes an on-campus resident, required immunizations must be submitted at that time.
Health Insurance • Students are billed for health insurance after registering for classes unless they complete a waiver. Visit studenthealth.uncc.edu for further details.
