Off street Parking/Passenger Loading • Parking lot is conveniently locating directly in front of the building allowing easy entrance • 68 total parking spots, 2 of which are handicapped accessible • Accessible route for passenger loading in the main entrance • Width of route: 36'' • Type of surface: black concrete parking lot transitions to flat pavement upon entrance (no ramp) • Fairly wide path and room provided for wheelchair maneuvering

Approach to Selected Entrance • No signage for inaccessible entrances • Distance from parking area to entrance: 36' • Width of the route is 36'' • Distance from parking area to entrance is 10' • Width of entrance handle to handle is 42" • Loading zone to the door of building: 16' • Flat ground prior to entering, no ramps nearby

  4. C. Entrance • Overall accessible for wheelchair: No threshold and non-slip surface • Doorway  • Double doors: 38" each side • Single door: 38" • Door handles: 42" high from ground • Button access for automatic door opening  • Technology to open the door: 40" high from ground

Access to Essential Areas • Restrooms, administrative offices, counter space and tables, and access to public safety are present within the building • Main floor is carpeted with a handicap accessible door to enter • Five foot T-space provided for w/c in reverse direction on main floor and main hallway to ceramics room (not provided upon entrance to the ceramics room) • Five foot T-space not provided for w/c in ceramics room with presents of lockers along the wall • Signage indicated in the surrounding perimeter indicating path to accessible elevator • Width of route to the ceramics department is 80"  • Entrance to ceramics room is 38" in width • Emergency exit not available in building on top level floor, but are present on middle and first floor

  6. E. Public Restrooms • Entrance sign • Areas are marked with signs that indicate an available restroom • Braille is included on the sign • Lever handles are mounted on the door for easy access • Door • Clearance to open and width of door is 5' x 5'

Public Restrooms (cont.) • Amenities in restroom • Bathroom is a unisex facility with no stall doors.  • T-Space turn is possible within bathroom • Grab bars present in the rear and to the left of the toilet • Sink  • Cut out underneath • 38" high from floor • Faucet • 41" high from floor • Operable with a closed fist • Paper towel dispenser • 45" high from the floor • Requires someone to pull down paper towel with fist • The toilet seat is 17.5" (ADA compliant) from the floor and includes grab bars behind and to the right of the toilet.  • Each grab bar is 36" high from the floor and 18.5" from the toilet seat

  8. F. Public Telephones & Water Fountains • No public telephones in the building  • Emergency phone on the emergency exit  • Push button  • Height from  floor: 54" • Water fountains • Spout 33" from the floor • Controls mounted on the front

  9. G. Access for the Visually Impaired • Braille signage provided indoors and outdoors  • Located on classrooms, administration rooms, entertainment centers, restrooms, emergency exits, and stair/elevators • No voice activated assistance that is strategically placed

  10. H. Assistance/Physical Aids Available • Currently there aren't assistance/Physical Aids available. • A handy hook opening door aid could be placed on the side of each door (or one per floor)  to assist wheelchair users in opening the door.  • W/C button at the door would assist in entering the room. 

  11. I. Recommendations • Install accessible ramp on north side of campus • Provide clear signage indicating accessible areas in the building • Re-arrange lockers in the entrance of ceramics room to allow clearance for wheelchair • Re-arrange desks and work stations in ceramic room • Include accessible work station inside ceramics room • Include push in doors for wheelchair clearance  • Signage should be cleaned off or remodeled to increase high contrast for visually impaired • Voice activated assistance may be included to assist visually impaired throughout the building and classroom
