  9. Notes: 3-3 Guided Reading 1.Give two reasons why Americans moved west • Overall Americans believed in Manifest Destiny – God wanted the United States to expand across the continent. More specifically, people went west to get cheap land and make their fortune. The Mormons moved west to escape religious persecution.

  10. Notes: 3-3 Guided Reading 2.Name three conflicts between Anglo settlers and Mexico. • Anglo settlers in Texas spoke English instead of Spanish. • Anglos tended to be Protestant instead of Catholic. • Many settlers brought their slaves with them. Mexico had outlawed slavery in 1829.
