The Faculty of Technology and Metallurgyof the Universityof Belgrade Presented by Ivanka Popovic
University of Belgrade • 31 faculties • 10 institutes • around 90 000 students • founded in 1808
The Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy Tradition • An independent Technological Division was founded within the Technical Faculty in March 1925. • In 1948 the school became an independent Faculty • In 1967 the FTM changed its name to the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy. The FTM is an accredited scientific research organization recognized by the Serbian Ministry of Science and Technological Development with extensive regional and international cooperation (FP 7, COST, EUREKA, TEMPUS, …)
The FTM curricula are fully compatible with the European Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry, covering the following areas: • Reaction and process design • Materials engineering • Industrial biotechnology OUR COMMITMENT: SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Teaching Reformed academic studies since 2005 according to the principles of the Bologna declaration:
Curricula Accredited bachelor, master and PhD studies in: • Chemical Engineering • Materials Engineering • Environmental Engineering • Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology • Metallurgical Engineering • Textile Technology • Chemistry (PhD only)
Curricula Accredited bachelor, master and PhD studies in: • Chemical Engineering • Materials Engineering • Environmental Engineering • Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology • Metallurgical Engineering • Textile Technology • Chemistry (PhD only) Polymer Engineering Polymeric Materials
10 000students have graduated from the FTM • 950master students have obtained their degrees at the FTM • 580 doctoral students have defended their PhD thesesat the FTM

The FTM hostsThe Cleaner Production Center of SerbiaThe Center for Water TechnologyThe Center for Cellulose, Paper, Packaging and Graphics Innovation Center of the FTM Ltd The FTM is one of the founders of the Business-Technological Incubator of the Technical Faculties of BU.
Polymer Laboratory • Brings together staff from various departments working on polymers (core group 9 teaching staff, 2 research associates, 10 PhD students) • Most of them working within the framework of the national project “Synthesis and functionalization of novel polymers and nanocomposites” • Research focus: hydrogels, functionalized polymers, nanocomposites, supermolecular structures, assemblies, polymerization kinetics, RAFT, natural polymers, polymer recycling
Gender issues at the FTM • The first woman dean was elected in 2006. • In the past women have been vice-deans (in most cases dealing with teaching). • The number of female teaching staff has steadily increased over the years. Salaries are equal to those of the male staff. • In 17 departments there are 8 female departmental heads. • The number of female students has steadily increased over the years. • The involvement of female students in the Student Parliament and Student Union is about 20%.
What do we expect from the project? • Increased awareness of gender issues at the level of Belgrade University • Skills enabling us to deal with these issues thus providing a more active role of women in faculty initiatives • Fruitful collaboration of the Polymer Laboratory with project partners • Better promotion of women scientists in the International Year of Chemistry
