  2. The Waste (England & Wales) Regulations 2011 • Into force 29 March 2011 • Duty of Care Transfer notes (from September 2011): • SIC codes • Declaration confirming discharged duty in respect of waste hierarchy

  3. Waste hierarchy; • Prevention • Preparing for re-use • Recycling • Other recovery (e.g. Energy recovery) • Disposal • Can depart from if achieves best overall environmental outcome

  4. Best overall environmental outcome – consider; • General principles of precaution & sustainability • Technical feasibility & economic viability • Protection of resources • The overall environmental, human health, economic & social impacts

  5. From January 2015 further restrictions introduced requiring, as far as reasonably possible, segregation of; • Paper • Metal • Plastics • Glass • for collection.
