  4. How Do I Start? • Save Energy? • Reduce Air Pollution? • Conserve Water? • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle? • Use Safer Cleaning Products?

  5. Being Green • Shopping Green • Living Green • Moving Green • Cleaning Green

  6. Simple Steps – Shopping Green • Buy products which have little packaging • Buy products in bulk • Buy reusable products instead of throw-away • Buy “energy star” appliances • Buy “local” food products • Buy products with “recycled” content

  7. Simple Steps – Living Green • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle • Use compact fluorescent lights • Switch off appliances when not in use • Lower temperature on hot water heater • Turn the thermostat temperature down 2˚ in the winter and up 2˚ in the summer

  8. Simple Steps – Moving Green • Share rides • Walk, when possible • Plan trips to run multiple errands

  9. Simple Steps – Cleaning Green • Cut down on paper – use washable cleaning cloths • Buy earth-friendly products – look for: • Nontoxic • Biodegradable • Chlorine-free • Phosphate-free • Non-petroleum based • Vegetable oil based • Fragrance free • No dyes

  10. Beware – Greenwashing • Making false claims about a green product or service as an outlet to market and/or sell a product or service. • Hidden trade-off • No Proof • Vague Claims • Irrelevant • Lies or Fibs • Lesser of Two Evils

  11. Being Green • Being green means just wanting to see less use of harmful products and more use of methods that will help the environment. A true green believer wants to do their part and hopes that others will do theirs.
