Unit 5 - Validity PS505 Testing, Measurement & Assessment
Unit 5 Project • I usually cover projects in the seminar of the unit before they are due • The “upgrade” caused the unit 4 seminar to be cancelled
Unit 5 Project • You need to download and read the Campbell & Fiske (1959) article • I have placed a copy in Doc Sharing for your convenience • Also download the assignment sheet on the project page
Unit 5 Project • The assignment document has four bullet points • But perhaps a little more description is needed • …
Unit 5 Project • You should open the paper with an introduction paragraph and a thesis statement • The introduction can introduce the concept of interest in your specialty area that you will be talking about • It can go on to say that you will be discussing the concept in terms of the important points of the Campbell and Fiske article
Unit 5 Project • You should then give a brief summary of what the paper by Campbell and Fiske is about • Here you can talk about the importance of assessing multiple traits in a test • And using multiple methods to assess traits
Unit 5 Project • You should then segué into a discussion of how you might apply these concepts to your chosen concept of interest • Explaining what methods you wish to use and why they would be best • Explain these in a bit of detail: how would the data be collected? What measures would be used?
Unit 5 Project • You should then segué into a discussion of how you might apply these concepts to your chosen concept of interest • What aspects of your chosen concept would be most important to measure in order to get the most valid measure possible OF the concept?
Unit 5 Project • End with a summary paragraph that restates the thesis in terms of what the paper has said.
Unit 5 Project • Technical details: • APA Format - • 12 pt Times New Roman font (anything else is wrong) • Separate cover page & references page • Complete sentences and paragraphs • Good grammar, spelling, syntax, etc. • Minimum of five pages (not “almost five pages”) • A good paper will almost certainly take more than five • I don’t require an abstract, but it can be good to practice them (abstracts do NOT count toward the page total)
Unit 5 Project • Questions? • Because of the recent downtime and general brouhaha, I will allow papers to be turned in “on time” until Thursday evening at 11.59 pm. • Papers should be graded and returned within five days of submission
