Inclusive physical activity, leisure and volunteering opportunities for disabled people living in Peterborough
There are approximately 35,000 (1 in 6) people in Peterborough living with a disability or long term health condition
Launched by Councillor Irene Walsh and Disability Forum Manager Bryan Tyler in May 2013Vision: increase the number of disabled people who take part in sport and physical activity
Project Aims • Leading disability sporting and recreational partnership within the area • Increase choice, availability and access • Support all disabled people to have better life outcomes through participating in sport, leisure activities and volunteering
Mrs X then • Rang Disability Peterborough (DUPLO) office March 2016 • Tunisia terrorist attack • Social care support withdraw • Left at home, with life changing injuries • No compensation • More surgery to remove shrapnel
Mrs X now • Referred to Inspire • Volunteer driver picked up for 8 weeks and taken to Hydrotherapy Pool, pain relief • Volunteer driver picks up and takes to Walks on Wednesday (followed by free tea and cake), and drops by shops on way home • Can talk about ordeal without breaking down • In a much happier place, mental wellbeing

Peterborough branch been active for 30 years • Lacked direction and integration • January 2016 joined Inspire • Recruited 26 new SO members • Re-establish some sports that have ceased • 8 Peterborough SO Athletes selected for the SO National Games 2017
New Sports • Inclusive Skating • Bum in a Bucket (Sledge Hockey/Para Ice Hockey) • Rebound Therapy • SO Athletics • Walks on Wednesday • Mental Health Football • MS Yoga • Zumba Gold including seated
Inclusive Skating • Funded through Comic Relief Community Programme from June 15 (9 months) • 2 hour on Fridays at Planet Ice in Bretton – funded until March 2017 • Enable families to meet up, have fun, learn a new skill and take part in an activity together • £2 per person • Over 600 people registered

Football Wellbeing & Recovery Formerly Football for Fun, the Football Wellbeing and Recovery project is now being coached by GB Cerebral Palsy Football Paralympian, Ryan Kay, and has had a re-brand. The team now have their own kit for playing tournaments and have had a successful start to the 2017 season.
E-QUIP is for young people who are • NEET (not in education, employment or training) • Affected by mental health/self-esteem issues • Those with long term health conditions • Disabled, over-weight or obese Free qualifications in the sports and fitness industry
E-QUIP programme • Includes first aid, fitness & gym instructor, healthy lifestyle, peer mentoring • The programme will inspire you to become leading role models for your peers and in the greater community • Providing the tools to apply for apprenticeships in the fitness and sports industry and igniting a passion for your future.
Disability Rights UK: Get Yourself Active • develop better opportunities for disabled people to get active through working in partnership with DPULOs, social care and health colleagues and the sport sector • develop stronger strategic links with key stakeholders particularly in public health and adult social care. • Advocating for personal budgets to be used to promote physical activity and improve health & wellbeing amongst the disabled people/clients
