  3. Characteristics of a Hero • The hero... • is usually male • is often of lowly birth, but has a secret high birthright or special power • has dead, absent, or uncaring parents. The father is almost always missing.

  14. Frame Story • What do you think a frame story is? • A frame story is when you have two stories happening at once, and one is usually telling the other. • Why do you think authors use a frame story? • To use multiple perspectives, multiple stories, and multiple meanings.

  15. I am Laertes' Son • What does Odysseus do first when he goes with the daughter of Alcinous? • He asks for a song about Troy. • What does this tell you about his character? • He's conceited. He wants to hear about himself.

  16. What does Odysseus tell them? • He talks about himself and how he and his men fought. • What gods may be causing Odysseus's lengthy return? • Zeus and Poseidon.
