Basic class rules • 1. Respect others and their belongings. • - ask before you borrow. • 2. Respect who has the floor. • - that means no cell phones/headphones please.
Basic rules • 3. No food, drinks must have a lid. • 4. Absolutely no chewing tobacco in class.
US History • The American Revolution- Do we still live by our founding principles today? • The Civil War- Was the war inevitable? Why were the two sides so radically different? • The Industrial Revolution- How did the IR change the landscape of American Society? • Immigration- Are immigrants the foundation or upheaval of American Society? • The Great Depression- How did the role of government change forever during this time? • WW II- How and why did America emerge as a World Super-Power after WW 2? • Cold War- Why was the Cold War “Cold” and “Hot at the Same time? • Modern Era- Is the US still a powerful country today? Do we still abide by our founding principles.
Political science • The Constitution- How is power divided amongst the 3 branches and State/National. • Civil Rights/Liberties- What role does the government play in protecting these rights? • Media/Parties/IG- What role should “outside factions” play in American Govt. • American Presidency- What are the roles of the presidency? And how has it changed over time? • Congress- What role does the legislative branch play in shaping policy? • State and Local- How does the function and structure of state and local govt. vary and relate to the structure of the federal government?
psychology • What is the difference between clinical psychology and experimental psychology? • How do the different structures and functions of the brain relate to human behavior? • How do various substances alter ones consciousness and ultimately behavior? • What are Psychological abnormalities? And what are the characteristics of the major diseases. • How does Human development explain the behavior of individuals at certain ages? • What roles do behavioral processes play on group and societal structures?
How will I be graded • Homework packets- 100 points, assigned about every 2 weeks. • In class assignments- quizzes and activities. 2-3 times a week. • Exams- 100+ points, usually consists of MC, matching, and Open Response. • Projects- assigned periodically throughout the year.
Us history grading • Your grade is determined by the following. • 1st quarter- 20% • 2nd quarter- 20% • 3rd quarter- 20% • 4th quarter- 20% • EOC- 20%
Who is mr. waters • I am 23 years old. • I was born in Racine, Wisconsin. • My family move to Florence, KY when I was 3. • I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was 4. • I attended Boone County High School. • Jobs: Knothole Umpire, Florence Freedom, The Point News Sports Producer, Bowling Green Hot Rods.
Wku! • Get used it, I went to WKU and I will talk about the Hilltoppers often. • WHY? • I was basketball manager for 3 years and experienced a wide range of things who helped me become the person I am today.
My wku tenure • Nov. 1 2010, became a manager. • August 2011, earned scholarship • Jan. 5, 2012 Louisiana Lafayette uses 6 players in OT to beat us. • Jan. 6, 2012 We fired our coach for a myriad of reasons. We were 5-11 at this point. • March 6, 2012 As the No. 7 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament we won 4 games in 4 days and went to the NCAA tournament with a record of 15-18. • March 13, 2012 down 16 with 5 minutes left in the opening round to Mississippi Valley St in front of a crowd that included President Obama we made the largest come back with under 5 minutes to go to win 59-58. We would move on to play Kentucky. • March 11, 2013 As the No. 6 seed we again won 4 games in 4 days to go back to the NCAA Tournament. (I watched the state championship game from my hotel room) • March 22, 2013 It all came to an end with a 64-57 loss to No. 1 Kansas in the 2nd rd.
A little about mr. waters • I am starting my 2nd year here at MCHS. • I coach Baseball and Basketball here at Central. • I love sports: WKU, Chicago White Sox, Blackhawks, Bears, Cincinnati Reds, and my dads alumni the University of Illinois. • I love trains. I took the train from Cincinnati to Chicago this summer. • I hate… the NBA (or more the over-fascination with it), KSR, and negative people. • Favorite TV Shows: House, The Office, The Blacklist, Boardwalk Empire, Ray Donovan. • Favorite studies: American Government, 20th Century History, Abnormal Psychology.
