  1. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES Ms. Porter’s Classroom Rose Park Math & Science Magnet School

  2. ENTRANCE • Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class. • Enter the classroom quietly. • Go directly to your assigned seat. • Get ready for your work.

  3. Beginning of Class • Immediately start the warm up that will be written on the board or on the screen. • Do the warm up on your warm up sheet. • When you finish, wait quietly for the next direction or study.

  4. DURING INSTRUCTION • Listen to the teacher with full attention. • No talking or whispering. • Ask permission to speak by raising your hand. • Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions which are not related to the subject can be asked after instruction. • After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didn’t understand.

  5. WHILE YOU ARE WORKING • Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand them. • If you didn’t understand, ask help from other students sitting around you. If they also don’t understand, ask to the teacher to explain it. • Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper. The person sitting on the other side of the room should not be interrupted by your noise. • Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time.

  6. KEEPING YOUR NOTEBOOK • You should have a science spiral notebook which will be used for only your science class. • Use blue or black ink pen or pencil to write in your spiral notebook. • Number the pages in the right corner. • Always write the titles of assignments. • Keep your spiral notebook clean and organized. • The spiral will stay in the classroom.

  7. IF THE TEACHER RAISES HER HAND • Stop whatever you are doing at that moment. • Face the teacher and wait silently. • Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has raised her hand. • No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher.

  8. AFTER YOU ARE DONE • Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. • If the assignment is to be turned in, do so. • Start your reading session. (Read your book, scientific magazine, etc.)

  9. DISMISSAL • Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can. • Wait for Ms. Porter to dismiss you. • After you get permission to leave, push in your chair and leave quietly. • If it is the last period of the day, stack the chairs on top of the table.

  10. CLASS WEBSITE • Please make sure that you check on my website weekly for new assignments. • I will also post extra copies of the classwork and study guides on the website. http://PorterScienceRosePark.weebly.com

  11. WHEN YOU ARE TARDY • If you don’t already have a pass, go to the main office to get a pass. • Sign the Tardy Sheet near the door. • You will not be excused from any work you missed. Get the assignment from a classmate and do it at home.

  12. WHEN YOU ARE ABSENT • Get the assignments from your classmates and the worksheet from Ms. Porter. Do the work at home. • If you missed a test because of your excused absence, inform Ms. Porter and arrange a time to make up the test after school, before school, or during the day. • You will not be able to make up any work if you have an unexcused absence. You will get a “I” for those assignments.

  13. SCIENCE PROJECT/ FAIR • One of the most exciting activities in your science class is science projects. • You are required to do a science project each year. Due dates will be announced later this year. • Start thinking of ideas. If you ask for help in advance, I will help you in developing your ideas.

  14. CLASSROOM RULES • School-wide classroom rules are posted on the wall: • Respect yourself and others always. • Have all materials everyday. (Be Prepared!) • Be in your seat when the bell rings. • Abstain from chewing gum while at school.
