  1. Student Technology Projects In The 21st Century World Language Classroom • Introduction of the workshop • The objective of this workshop is to learn how to implement fun technology projects in our classrooms.

  2. Workshop Agenda • We will watch and discuss 5 student technology projects: • A-Music Video • B-De Compras/Shopping • C- Accidentes y Emergencias • D- Technology Art Project Salvador Dali • E- Community as your classroom “La CarreraIncreible”

Activity summary • Students use the target language to create a music video that describes getting ready for an event, talk about daily routines, and describe people and things. • usage of reflexive and express possession. Intended Level: Novice Range, Intermediate Range • Length of Activity: five 45 minute periods • Reflects Standards: • WL.NM.1.IL.1: Demonstrate understanding of basic words, phrases and questions about self and personal experiences, through gestures, drawings, pictures, and actions. • WL.NM.1.IL.2: Demonstrate understanding of everyday expressions dealing with simple and concrete daily activities, and needs presented in a clear, slow, and repeated speech. • WL.NH.1.IL.1: Demonstrate understanding of familiar topics, and frequently used expressions supported by a variety of actions. • WL.IL.1.IL.1: Use context cues to identify the main idea and essential details on familiar topics expressed in short conversations, presentations, and messages. • Interdisciplinary Theme:Health Literacy • 21st Century Skills: Creativity and Innovation, Presentational Mode

Materials Needed: • Lyrics of the song “A quehoratedespiertas” from Realidades Textbook • Level 2, Video camera or camera or cell phone with video capabilities, PC with Audacity free download music mixer program, headset, • MP3 the downloaded track “A quehoratedespiertas” without the lyrics from www.PHschool.com, or any Instrumental MP3 of choice. • Overhead projector, Doc cam, Elmo, flash drive.

Steps • How students work: Students can work individually, in pairs or small groups. • Previous Knowledge: Parts of the body, Clothing, Tell time. • Steps for planning and Implementation: DAY 1- After students reviewed parts of the body, some clothing items and time. Teach the entire class the song “A quehoratedespiertas” (TPR instruction recommended) 45minutes period • Have students standing up and teach the body movements along with the lyrics of the song, put emphasis on the chorus of the song and the reflexive pronouns. • Input the music and have them sing along as they would during Karaoke. • Divide students in groups of their choice for a fun and friendly competition. Give them 5 minutes to prepare a unique performance in which they will be assessed based on creativity, lyrics and enthusiasm.

Steps • Day 2- Review song and distribute rubric for music video project. 45minutes period • Show the entire class how to record voices to Audacity recording program and import any MP3 instrumental melody to this program to mix their recorded voices. • Have students practice the lyrics of the song with their groups and wait to be called for the recording of their voices. Have students record their songs to Audacity and convert it as MP3 file. • Day 3- Show students how to record from a video camera, cell phone or picture camera and import the video to Windows moviemaker (standard in any PC) If possible ask for a group volunteer to be recorded in class and then show the entire class step by step the process of importing the video and mixing the MP3 song in Windows. 45minutes period • Day 4-Give a deadline to have their video and MP3 file recorded and in a flash drive. Allow students time to use the computer lab at school or have computers available in class for this purpose. Be flexible and make yourself available understand that there will always be a technical problem to be solved. 45minutes period • Day 5-Have students turn in their Music Videos in a flash drive along with a rubric for assessment and show their work on the big screen.
